Mock drafts are a dime a dozen now-a-days. It’s the favorite pastime of many sports writers to give their predictions on how they think drafts will pan out. Everyone knows that they are inaccurate. And yet, people love to read them. Mock drafts help inspire excitement and passion into fans. That is perhaps the main reason that they are so popular.
So naturally, I am also writing a mock draft. However, mine is a little bit different. The idea for it was inspired by Bill Barnwell, who made a draft for ESPN where every single pick was traded away to another team. I’m putting a little different spin on that idea.
The premise is this: what if the Suns were to trade for every single pick in the first round of the draft this year? You would probably scoff and say, “That’s impossible! No one has that many tradeable assets!” I can assure you, you are completely right. And this idea isn’t saying that the Suns would own all 30 picks at once.
Instead, I am proposing the scenario for the Suns to trade for every other pick in the draft besides the one they own at number 4 overall. I will also use FanSided’s latest mock draft as a sort of guideline for who’s left on the board. For example, in the scenario for the Suns trading for the second pick, Markelle Fultz will be off the board, as the mock draft has him going first to the Celtics.
Some of these trades may be crazy, and many of them probably aren’t very realistic. But that doesn’t mean that these trades aren’t still fun to think about. So with that being said, let’s start with the first overall pick!
