Point Guard
The Phoenix Suns currently have 27-year-old Eric Bledsoe, a potential all-star talent, and could have been an all-star this past season if not for the dearth of point guards in the West. Bledsoe too is under a bargain contract for the next two seasons and he would be a viable piece to build with at point for the next five years should they want to keep him around – and he remains healthy.
Secondarily, they have Tyler Ulis coming off the bench, presumably for the next few years, and even stepped in to start at the end of last season showing that his offensive awareness is off the charts already. A solid distributor and fearless when driving into the lane, if he could develop a deadly outside shot, there is no reason that comparisons to Isaiah Thomas could not come to fruition.
Now, if the Suns trade Eric Bledsoe and do not receive a starting point guard caliber player in the deal then the need to draft a point guard becomes much greater. However, at the moment, Suns fans have to presume that Eric Bledsoe will be the team’s starting point guard next season and Ulis will be his relief. Thus drafting for need in this case is not the important.
