1988, 7th Pick

Who The Suns Took:

Tim Perry, Center/Power Forward, Temple

Career Stats:

481 GP, 6.8 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 0.9 APG, 48.5% FG

Who The Suns Should Have Taken:

Rod Strickland, Point Guard, DePaul – Originally taken by the New York Knicks with the 19th overall pick

Career Stats:

1094 GP, 13.2 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 7.3 APG, 45.4% FG

Tim Perry had a relatively short career, and wasn’t very effective when he was on the floor. Perry’s claim to fame? He was a terrible contestant in the 1995 Slam Dunk Contest here in Phoenix, and he was one of the three players Phoenix traded to Philadelphia for Charles Barkley. Strickland had a long and productive career, and was also one of the better ball-handlers the league has seen.

This pick was the first of two for the Suns in 1988.
