Otto Porter has quietly become the league’s most efficient player. While shooting 52% from the field Porter has led the league all season in three-point percentage at 44% at a rate of two made threes a game until Kyle Korver caught fire and reclaimed his title. Most casual fans may not know Porter as a household name but that is soon to change. This off-season he will become a restricted free agent and will most certainly demand the max. With other teams such as the Nets having the ability to offer as much money as allowed the Wizards will most likely have no other choice than to go over the luxury to keep Porter.
Compared to last season, Porter has improved his field goal percentage by 5%, three-point percentage by 8%, and free throw percentage by 7%. Furthermore, his rebounds, steals, blocks, and points per game increased while playing more minutes and attempting more shots per game. Porter has been significant to the success the Wizards have had all season. Without Porter’s vast improvement in efficiency and intangibles John Wall and Bradley Beal would have a much harder time this season achieving what they have.
Porter has gone from the list of possible busts from the 2013 draft to living up to his #3 selection.
