If there was a Comeback Player of the Year award it would go to Eric Gordon. After years of constant injuries Gordon has finally swung together enough health to have a meaningful season. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Gordon is in the best possible situation to thrive. He no longer has the pressure of being the highest paid player on the team and can just focus on being the best role player possible. Mike D’Antoni has given Gordon the green light from three-point range and the results have been major. An insane 65.1% of Gordon’s shots this season have been taken from behind the arc. His field goal percentage is skewed because of this. On face value 40% is terrible from the field but taking into account a majority of his shots come the three that percentage in context in not that bad. For more context he shoots 37% from downtown and 47% from two-point range.
James Harden has had a remarkable season but a simple eye test over the course of the season can assure that Houston wouldn’t be where it is without the impact of Gordon off the bench.
