Houston Rockets: 55-27

Mike D’Antoni, after years trying to replicate his success in Phoenix, has finally achieved his Dream Team and his he run and gun offense has hit an all-new level. Co-signed by uber-analytics guru General Manager Daryl Morey, the Rockets have instituted a Moneyball  situation where the objective is to shoot as many three-pointers as humanly possible. Their logic is simple: three points is worth more than than two points.

The plan was laid out in the off-season as Houston acquired players that specialize in shooting outside shots telling them to just let them fly. In the process Houston attempted by far  the most three-pointers in NBA history, attempted 714 more three-pointers than the Golden State Warriors did all of last season. Furthermore, Houston shot 527 more than any other other team this season.

Houston ranks among the best offenses:

  • 1st in three-pointers made,
  • 2nd in points scored
  • 3rd in offensive rating
  • 3rd in the in pace of play

D’Antoni’s offense combined with Morey’s dedication and led by MVP candidate James Harden has created the perfect storm and unless a team in the playoffs figures out how to stop the onslaught of three-pointers Houston attempts, they will have a legitimate shot (get it?) at the Championship.
