Phoenix Suns Mid-Season Grades Part 1/2
By Lucas McLean
Marquese Chriss
7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 18.8 minutes per game
Marquese Chriss is in the same boat as Dragan Bender – extremely young but full of potential. However Bender and Chriss are complete opposites in terms of laying style. Chriss is crazy athletic and uses it to get to the hoop while Bender is more of a shooter. Though, that does not mean Chriss can’t shoot. In his best game of the season against the Milwaukee Bucks he hit three shots from beyond the arc while posting 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 24 minutes.
After the first seven games of the season Head Coach Earl Watson promoted Chriss to the starting lineup. Since then he has played well for a 19 -year old but his play has not come without its hiccups. Chriss is second on the team in fouls committed; only four less than Booker even though he has played 900 less minutes.
Chriss is going through a learning curve concerning positioning and composure but that is expected of a player who should still be a sophomore in college. Overall Suns fan should be pleased with how this young man has been progressing.
