4. Keep The Highlights Coming
This may seem trivial, but the best memories most Suns fans have from Archie Goodwin’s sophomore season involve some kind of highlight play. Case in point: his epic dunk over Jonas Valanciunas was probably the first time most casual NBA fans had ever heard the name “Archie Goodwin.”
That wasn’t the only highlight play Goodwin registered in 2014-15, however. We’ve only seen rare flashes of it through his first two seasons in the league, but this 21-year-old can certainly elevate and finish at the rim.
Again, racking up highlight reel plays isn’t what Goodwin should be focusing on. But the more plays like this he adds to his name, the more he’ll have opportunities to cement himself as a permanent fixture on this roster.
Goodwin is still extremely young, but some fans are already giving up on him. All flash and no substance won’t get him anywhere, but if you recall, Gerald Green‘s high-flying dunks and instant heat checks off the bench quickly made him a fan favorite in Phoenix.
Goodwin doesn’t have that instant heat check quality in his game, but he has plenty of potential to be a frequent rim-rocker.
With everyone getting so excited about rookie Devin Booker, Goodwin needs to remind people that he has value. Step one is taking on that fan favorite role and thrilling the home crowd with highlight reel plays whenever he gets the chance.
