Suns 5-On-5: The Markieff Morris Roundtable
3) If the Suns decide to trade Keef, what trade package would you like to see?
Bourguet: Taj Gibson or Channing Frye would be perfectly fine as far as I’m concerned. Gibson would help elevate Phoenix’s defense into top-10 territory, and we’ve already seen how well Frye fits in a system with dual point guards slicing up defenses in pick-and-pop sets. Unfortunately, Chicago would probably rather have Gibson than a hot head like Keef and the young Magic could use Frye’s veteran presence in the locker room.
Chasen: I’m not sure there’s a specific package I’d want to see, but the Suns need to get back a competent power forward. Personally, I’m a fan of Mirza Teletovic, but the Suns’ playoff hopes will take a huge hit if he’s the one dominating the PF minutes when the season opens. So anything you can get after that is just a bonus.
Harris: I would love to see a simple player-for-player trade to Houston, ideally for solid starter like Donatas Motiejunas or even a bench contributor like Corey Brewer. Both of those players are about as talented as Markieff so in a vacuum, a trade such as this would make sense. However, this may be a pipe dream because I can’t see any reason for Houston to ship away two of their best players, especially since Motiejunas is young (24) and the Rockets just gave Brewer a new contract. It’d also be hard to get the salaries to match.
Hann: As detailed more in my “Sun(day) On A Monday” column: I would love to see Keef to Chicago for Taj Gibson, straight up. Or, Keef to Orlando for Channing Frye and a protected first round pick.
Schall: I’ve seen a ton of various trades thrown around and none of them are particularly favorable for the Suns. Ideally, the Suns would get back a mid-first round pick or an established starter. Of course that only happens if Keef plays and plays well. At this point, it’s unlikely the Suns get equal value for him, but if they could get a useful veteran like Taj Gibson, I’d be relatively content.
