Weaknesses

Alan Williams has shown the ability to rebound the basketball no matter what position he plays or how big his competition is. Thanks to that massive 261-pound body, combined with his strength, Williams makes up for his lack of height and jumping ability in a way that’s reminiscent of Zach Randolph in that respect.

But at the NBA level, it’ll be harder for him to throw opponents around and on the offensive end, his inability to spread the floor with a midrange jump shot could be particularly problematic.

With the right defensive anchor behind him, Williams could easily hold his end on that end of the floor. But spacing might be an issue on offense, especially if he plays alongside another big who can’t knock down the occasional perimeter shot. It’s also slightly worrisome that as good as his low-post game was, he often tried to do too much for the Gauchos, leading to poor shot selection at times.

That likely stems from the fact that he was the only NBA-caliber player on the roster, but still. That kind of bad habit is one quick way to get yourself pulled from the rotation, especially when we’re talking about a guy who has struggled with his conditioning in the past.
