Strengths

Holmes’ projection as the 28th best prospect is much like his strengths; good enough, but nothing that blows your mind. He has an average perimeter shot, average handle and a post ability that enables him to take advantage of smaller opponents, but nothing that sets him apart from other big men of equal or better size.

One thing he does have that NBA teams look for in their big men is free throw shooting (77.8 percent last season). And with the way he is able to snag offensive rebounds (in a way that reminds you of Tristan Thompson), you can bet he will be set to the charity stripe quite often at the NBA level.

Defensively, Holmes carries much more skill than on the offensive end. He can guard multiple positions and has above average athleticism and quickness for a player his size. Off of pick-and-rolls, teams can switch because of Holmes’ ability to close out on shots and contest quickly from the perimeter.
