How The Phoenix Suns Can Get DeMarcus Cousins
Phoenix’s Godfather Offer
If general manager Ryan McDonough were to ever cash in on all the assets he’s stockpiled, it would be with a Godfather offer right now. After all, other suitors would have a pretty hard time matching what the Suns could put on the table if they decide to go all in.
The Suns’ greatest advantage in this discussion would also be the trickiest part of getting fans to buy in, especially when it concerns an embattled and misunderstood talent like Boogie. Then again, maybe Suns fans are already aware of how devastating a force Cousins is:
However, no matter what your stance on Cousins is, the fact remains that it will take a major offer to sway the Kings into trading away their franchise player, even if the front office is on board with Karl’s latest attempt to uproot a star player.

As already noted, Karl and Ranadive would more than likely want veteran players, or at least, players who could help them put a semi-competent team on the floor. That team wouldn’t contend for a title and they probably wouldn’t even make the playoffs, but, ideally, they’d be entertaining in spots and would do their best given the organization’s attempt to start winning sooner rather than later.
Stop me if it sounds like I just described the 2014-15 Phoenix Suns, who would put multiple players from their roster on the table to get Cousins.
The Kings need a point guard and Bledsoe is one of the more enticing options who’s reportedly on the trade block. A sign-and-trade for Brandon Knight would be more ideal from Phoenix’s perspective, but again, no one on this roster is off limits if DeMarcus Cousins is available.
Sacramento would probably also want Markieff Morris. Alex Len is another tempting option. The Kings might want younger players with upside in addition to the more established assets, so T.J. Warren and/or Archie Goodwin would have to be on the table. McDonough would probably have to throw in a future first rounder or two to sweeten the deal, and the Kings would have to unload a few players as cap filler to make the trade work financially.
That’s a lot to offer for one player, but as we’ve already covered, you can’t win a championship — or even attract other talent — without a superstar. The Suns don’t have such a player yet, but DeMarcus Cousins could be that guy.
