Strengths
As stated above, Portis plays with a fire that would make Kevin Garnett proud, as Portis recently admitted to a group of reporters that when he plays, he thinks of his mother going through domestic violence and channels the anger that he feels.
This Hulk-like rage transforms Portis into a ferocious rebounder and gives him a paint presence that few teams in the NBA have, as he averaged 11.9 rebounds and over a block per 40 minutes last year. Not only can he bang with the big bodies, but this power forward also has a jump shot that he can rely on to help make defenders respect him.
In his last year at Arkansas, Portis shot 54 percent on two-point field goals and 46 percent on three-pointers (though he only attempted 30). Most impressively, Portis has proven he is not afraid to take AND make his free throws, as he shot 73 percent from the charity stripe in both years at Arkansas. His ability to move around fluidly with his mammoth frame will also do him wonders in the NBA.
