8. Dick Van Arsdale

Like Connie Hawks, Dick Van Arsdale technically wasn’t a draft pick. But since the Suns acquired him from the New York Knicks in the 1968 expansion draft, we’re going to count him anyway. After all, the Suns haven’t had THAT many great draft picks over the years, and how could we leave out the “Original Sun”?

Van Arsdale spent nine seasons in Phoenix, making three All-Star teams and receiving one NBA All-Defensive Second Team nod in 1974. He averaged 17.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a Sun. In his three All-Star seasons, the Original Sun put up 21.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game on nearly 47 percent shooting.

A member of the Ring of Honor, Van Arsdale’s No. 5 jersey still hangs proudly from the rafters of US Airways Center.
