6. Jay Humphries

With the 13th pick in the 1984 NBA Draft, the Suns selected Jay Humphries, a 6’3″ guard from Colorado. A mere three picks later, the Utah Jazz found their point guard of the future by taking John Stockton from Gonzaga.

No offense to Humphries, who was much higher on people’s draft boards at the time, but DID WE MISS THE PART WHERE THE SUNS COULD’VE HAD JOHN FREAKING STOCKTON?

Humphries wasn’t a draft bust either. He played 11 seasons in the NBA and finished his career averaging 11.1 points and 5.5 assists per game on 47.6 percent shooting.

But he only spent three and a half seasons with the Suns before he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. Humphries averaged 10.8 points and 6.3 assists per game during his time in Phoenix, and again, JOHN FREAKING STOCKTON.
