5. Rudy Fernandez

In the 2007 NBA Draft, the Suns took Rudy Fernandez with the 24th overall pick. Fernandez was playing for DKV Joventut at the time and was more of a draft-and-stash guy. But the Suns immediately traded his draft rights, along with James Jones, to the Portland Trail Blazers.

In exchange? They received cash considerations.

Fernandez didn’t play his first game with the Blazers until 2008, but he averaged 10.1 points per game and shot 39.9 percent from three-point range in his first NBA season.

The Suns had plenty of perimeter shooting in their run to the Western Conference Finals in 2010, but having another three-point threat on that deep bench might have helped, especially with Nash’s penchant for feeding open shooters.
