Bargain Contracts

At this point, a sizable amount of Suns fans are 100 percent convinced the Morris twins need to go. Their attitudes aren’t great and they’re not exactly irreplaceable. But the reason Phoenix should think extremely hard about trading them is the fact that they represent one of the best bargain deals in the NBA.

Last summer, the Suns re-signed the pair to four-year extensions worth a combined $52 million ($32 million for Keef, $20 million for Mook). Those contract extensions kick in this year, which means over the next four seasons, Phoenix will be paying $13 million a year for the Morris twins.

I know the Morrii aren’t anybody’s favorite Suns right now, but that is extremely good value for two forwards who still have plenty of room for growth. Keep in mind, this was only Keef’s first season as a starter.

The bargain deals for the Morrii would be the biggest attraction for another team to consider trading for them, even if they’re found innocent. Between the technicals, locker room rants and current legal issues, a lot of teams may not be willing to give them a chance at all.

Their cheap contracts and youth are the biggest things they have going for them at the moment…and they’re the reason the Suns won’t make a hasty trade.
