Brandan Wright isn’t the main Brandon the Phoenix Suns want to re-sign this summer, but as a useful backup center, the 27-year-old veteran may have a place on a team in desperate need of a positive locker room presence.
During exit interviews, both Wright and general manger Ryan McDonough sounded optimistic that he’d be back in Phoenix next season alongside Brandon Knight — the team’s top offseason priority as of right now.
“I’ll be careful what I say or how I say it about Brandon Knight given how Eric Bledsoe’s contract situation went last year, but we like him as a player, we like him as a person, we do have an interest in bringing he and Brandan Wright — both of them — back here to Phoenix,” McDonough said. “We hope they feel the same way and we think they do.”
“Definitely, you know my family loves it here, nice weather, I like Jeff as a coach,” Wright said when asked if he could envision a future in Phoenix. “The organization is really pushing to make this place a strong place to be, you know obviously we need a couple of different guys or whatever, but I think it’s going in the right direction.”
The question is, should the Suns be so invested in re-signing Wright, an unrestricted free agent who may have nudged his salary into more expensive territory after an impressive season?
Here’s a look at the pros and cons of re-signing Brandan Wright, along with what the Suns should ultimately do.
