The Phoenix Suns need a superstar. They need veteran leadership, they need perimeter shooting and they need interior defense and rebounding. While these areas of need are not mutually exclusive, the biggest thing the Suns need to take the next step forward is a franchise player.

It just so happens that LaMarcus Aldridge will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

From the Suns’ perspective, this is a no-brainer. Even at 29 years old, if Aldridge expresses interest, it’d be pretty hard to turn down the opportunity to bring in one of the best power forwards in the NBA.

His contract — whether it’d be a long-term deal or a one- or two-year deal to allow him to rejoin free agency when the salary cap spikes — would look a lot better once the NBA’s salary cap launches into the stratosphere. Even as his athleticism begins to decline, Aldridge has the footwork and midrange game to remain effective well into his 30s.

That being said, is there any remote chance Phoenix is even on his radar? And as much as the Suns need a superstar, is LMA that guy? Here’s a look at why Suns fans shouldn’t hold their breath on LaMarcus Aldridge.
