5. Not A Long-Term Piece

At the age of 29, Green has already played for seven different teams in his seven and a half seasons in the NBA. So even though he had his breakout season with the Suns last year, and even though his athleticism doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, it’s hard to figure out how Green fits in long-term.

The Suns are the third-youngest team in the association and while Green’s age technically makes him a veteran, he’s only really had two seasons in which he was truly productive — 2013-14 with the Suns, and a brief 31-game stint with the New Jersey Nets in 2011-12.

With Isaiah Thomas now on the roster, it feels like the Suns have too many heat check guys. I.T. is the younger of the two and has been far more efficient this season with Green’s numbers dropping off from his breakout campaign last year. General manager Ryan McDonough is trying to build a championship roster in Phoenix, and I seriously doubt he sees Gerald Green as an instrumental part of one.
