3. The Recent Hot Streak

We’ll get to the two major reasons behind Phoenix’s recent hot streak in a minute, but it’s certainly worth noting that as much as the technical fouls, sloppy turnovers, slow starts and issues closing out games have been frustrating, the Suns have still managed to win 12 of their last 16 games.

Granted, there are still 40 games to be played in the 2014-15 season. For all their injury problems, OKC is within reach with half a season to go. That 3.5-game cushion seems big now, but Phoenix will likely have to pass someone ahead of them to keep their playoff spot.

That seems like a tall task, but the Suns have proven that when they’re focused, they can beat anybody. Think about this: if not for two mindless technicals against the San Antonio Spurs and one late Isaiah Thomas turnover against the Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix might have won their last eight games.

Phoenix is starting to move toward consistency, beating teams they should and competing with everyone else. Phoenix only has six double-digit losses on the season, with four of them coming in the first month of the season. If this young team learns how to close out games, watch out.
