While the majority of the focus has been on Josh Jackson, Davon Reed, the other Suns’ rookie participating in the Las Vegas Summer League, via the second round, has been a pleasant surprise. For being labeled as a three and D player, Reed has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket in Vegas. Reed has shown good footwork and form on his jump-shot from three-point range. Although at times, Reed has struggled against more athletic players on the offense end.

Mike James, a former Suns Summer League star in 2015, has also been a consistent force in Vegas. Displaying what the majority of his teammates are lacking in this league, James plays under control, looking to make the right play on offense. James also is an accurate three-point shooter who can get his shot off the bounce and when left open. An area of concern is on the defensive end where James’ lack of size and speed have allowed opposing guards to dictate their will against him.
Up to this point, there is a lot to like and dislike about the play from these Summer Suns. It will be interesting to see how Earl Watson and the staff will continue to develop these players moving forward. For now, let’s enjoy having this front row seat to the future of Phoenix Suns basketball.
