3. Attempt 40 Three-Pointers
Unless you’ve been attentively following Suns news this summer, this goal is probably coming out of left field. Why would a seven-foot center whose game is still so raw ever want to start jacking up three-pointers?
Well, according to Hornacek, Len has really been working on expanding his range all the way to three-point territory and the Suns are prepared to have him start attempting corner threes in 2015-16. Bearing that in mind, I’d say Len attempting 40 three-pointers next year would be an acceptable balance between the natural progression of his game and “Oh my God he hasn’t made a three in weeks, why does he keep shooting them?”
Hornacek has mentioned that against certain lineups, the Suns may try playing Len and Chandler alongside each other in a Twin Towers formation. But in today’s NBA, that only works if one of those bigs can spread the floor from at least the midrange. I’m not sure how often we’ll see Len and Chandler on the court at the same time, but the young Ukrainian would have the perfect opportunity to try his hand from downtown in those lineups.
Len won’t become a stretch-5 overnight. To be honest, his confidence in his midrange jumper still needs some fine-tuning. But if Len can start moving toward the ultimate goal of having respectable three-point range by attempting one triple every other game or so, he’ll be better off for it in the long run.
