It looks like the Phoenix Suns won’t be playing in U.S. Airways Center next season. At least, not under that name.
The Arizona Republic reports that American Airlines, which merged with U.S. Airways, will not renew the naming rights with the expectation that the U.S. Airways named will be phased out. The 10-year contract for the naming rights to the Suns’ home arena changed America West Arena to U.S. Airways Center and will end in October 2015.
From the Republic:
“Three branded arenas in one major sports league is not the best use of our marketing resources,” company officials said in an employee newsletter due out today. “The NBA has rules pertaining to the unique names of each arena and we have long-term deals in place with Dallas and Miami.”
The Suns have the right to seek out a new sponsor for their home, according to The Arizona Republic.
