Bogdan Bogdanovic, Serbia drop Iran in FIBA World Cup

Serbia got back to winning on Monday, a day after falling by a point to France. Suns draft pick Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting and had the best plus-minus on his squad in an 83-70 win over Iran, which was led by former Phoenix center Hamed Haddadi’s 29 points.

Bogdanovic’s plus-20 probably had a bit to do with his play that went beyond the scoring and the box score. Serbia’s 20 total assists showed especially in the fullcourt, and that’s where Bogdanovic thrived as a passer. Watch the video above at the 1:20 mark (or click straight to the clip here) and notice Bogdanovic ignite a break by whipping a pass to a left outlet, taking a pass back and quickly swinging it to the right side of the court before the rock finds its way to an open man under the hoop — all without it touching the floor.

That will be a huge part of the allure to Bogdanovic joining the Suns assuming that when he comes to the United States, Jeff Hornacek will still be leading Phoenix’s up-tempo offense. Hornacek loves smart basketball players, and it appears Bogdanovic is just that. He’s a slasher and scorer too, but he won’t hurt the team even when he’s not doing it all himse.f.
