Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic came off the bench and scored 18 points to help the Slovenian national team defeat New Zealand 80-74 in an exhibition game on Saturday. New Zealand’s game against Slovenia is their first of four as they tour around Lithuania in preparation for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Despite the limited time, Dragic managed to lead the team in scoring. New Zealand got off to a quick start, perhaps to Dragic coming off the bench, and led by 10 at halftime. Dragic was able to lead a Slovenia comeback in the 4th quarter by scoring 14 points to give his team a six point win.
The Suns have an agreement with the Slovenian team that they will limit Dragic’s minutes and have him come off the bench so he does not tire out before training camp starts.
