Are Phoenix Suns fans the most tortured in the NBA?

USA Today came out with rankings of the most tortured NBA fan bases for all 30 teams earlier this week. The Phoenix Suns naturally cracked the top-10 coming in as having the eighth-most tortured fan base.

Here is what USA Today said about Suns fans.

The Suns are sort of underrated, torture-wise, particularly because they’re easily the most popular team in their area. Remember: It is very possible they lost out on a chance at a title because of a crooked referee specifically trying to make them lose. That’s sort of the definition of pain.

For a team with one of the highest winning percentages of the four major sports to never win a championship, I find the ranking a bit low. The teams ahead of the Suns in order from seven to one are the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Personally, I would put the Suns fan base ahead of the Warriors, Jazz, Wizards, Clippers and Knicks. I mean let’s be serious, there aren’t many Clippers fans to begin with.

Kings fans have gone through hell and back since “Game 6″ of the 2002 Western Conference playoffs, having also dealt with relocation rumors for much of the last five season or so. Cavs fans are deservingly high, but with LeBron back in Cleveland, I think they are doing just fine these days.

For Suns fans that have dealt with everything from losing a coin toss, to a drug scandal, to John Paxson and Mario Elie. From a hip check to a fractured nose. From a Tim Duncan three to a Kobe Bryant air ball. I believe that Suns fans should hold the title as the most tortured NBA fan base.
