2014 NBA mock draft: Suns like Rodney Hood, James Young

Makers of mock drafts are beginning to settle. Rumors could mean a lot or a little depending on whether they’re true and whether a team’s opinion on a given player even matters. If Team A takes a highly-valued player before Team B, it won’t make a difference what Team B thought of said player.

The unpredictability could be huge for the Phoenix Suns. Mid-lottery talents like Doug McDermott and Nik Stauskas could fall into Ryan McDonough’s lap. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix has sources telling him the Suns like two swingman — Rodney Hood of Duke and James Young of Kentucky — with their 14th overall pick, but in a perfect example of why that might not matter, take a look at Mannix’s mock. While noting the rumor, he has Phoenix selecting the second-best international prospect in point forward Dario Saric. If he falls, it’d be hard not to select him.

Long story short, nobody knows what will happen on June 26. We do, however, have tiers of players figured out at this point, with a few exceptions (Clint Capela? I have no idea where he goes).

Here’s a look at the most recent mock drafts, but not a lot has changed since our last update for ESPN’s Chad FordDraft Express, Sports Illustrated, NBADraft.net, Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! Sports, NBA Draft Insider, and CBS Sports.
