2014 NBA Draft Combine: League releases participant list

The NBA released the list of NBA Draft Combine participants on Monday, though there are a few additional scratches to the roster listed below.

Michigan big man Mitch McGary is reportedly out of action as his back continues to heal, as is Michigan State forward Adreian Payne, who has mono. Both will be available for interviews. Because there’s little reason to hurt their stock, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid have already pulled out of the event, which begins Wednesday and runs through the weekend.

For the Suns’ purposes, missing out on watching the top three prospects means little, unless Phoenix gets mighty lucky with the lottery. The Suns do lose a bit by not getting to see Payne, who could be valued from their 14th pick to their 18th pick as a stretch power forward. McGary is also projected by Draft Express to go 28th overall, which is just after the Suns’ 27th pick.

Last season, the Suns took Alex Len with the fourth overall pick despite the Maryland center only participating in a few measurements at the combine. He was dealing with his first ankle problem at the time.

The combine also did little to budge Archie Goodwin’s draft stock. Goodwin faired well in terms of body fat, wingspan and most of the raw measurements but struggled with his shot especially. Seeing that coach Jeff Hornacek has found a degree of success in changing that, it’s hard to say the combine changed the team’s opinion of the young guard.
