Rising Stars Challenge: Miles Plumlee blocks Anthony Davis

Posted by on February 15th, 11:36 am

Miles Plumlee received little opportunity in the 2014 Rising Stars Challenge, but in the Friday All-Star event, he did produce an impressive block on the block-meister himself, Anthony Davis. Plumlee finished with four points and three rebounds in about 15 minutes of play, and it didn’t help that much he needed to fight for playing time behind the game’s MVP, Andre Drummond.

The Detroit Pistons center scored 30 points and added 25 rebounds for Team Hill, which won 142-136 on NBA All-Star Friday night. Other players on the nine-man team to take at least 10 shots included Harrison Barnes, Terrence Jones, Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard and Dion Waiters — so yeah, there’s weren’t many touches for Plumlee. Miles hit his only two attempts.

New York Knicks guard Tim Hardaway Jr. led all scorers with 36 points for Team Webber, and Plumlee’s brother, Mason, scored 20 points points on 10-of-13 shooting.

Goran Dragic will represent the Suns on All-Star Saturday night and will team with Reggie Jackson in the Skills Challenge. That event is the second of the four Saturday night events that will begin at 6 p.m. MST.

Miles lacked offensive aggression in the Challenge, as has also been the case lately in Suns games.

He needs to score confidently, to have a go-to move and assertively go-to it. Maybe he will develop this quality more this summer, between seasons, but right now on offense he looks to me like he’s been beaten down and way too deferential.

His younger brother Mason, on the other hand, looked much improved over how he was playing at the start of the season.

Unfortunately for Miles he has as much of an offensive game as did his coach Mark West. He certainly is not going to learn a “go-to” move from West. I hope he practices with his two younger brothers over the summer.
