Well, the Suns aren’t dead yet.

After a hot start, Phoenix had dropped four games in a row and looked to be headed for the lottery this summer. I wrote that they wouldn’t get near the number one pick, but would be in the lottery.

I guess the Suns didn’t get the memo.

They won three out of their last four games, went 2-1 on the road, with the only loss to the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. Now Phoenix is 8-7 and gets to play consecutive games against the horrible 2-14 Utah Jazz.

The disparity between the conferences is evident right now. If Phoenix (tied for the 9th in the West) were in the East, they would be the THIRD-SEED. Only Miami and Indiana would be better.

Unfortunately, the Suns aren’t in the top-heavy Eastern Conference and have to fight for a postseason berth instead of get in by default, like the Chicago Bulls might, despite losing former MVP Derrick Rose for the year.

The season for the Suns is going to be a roller-coaster from winning-streaks and “they’re making the playoffs!” to heart wrenching defeats and “there’re gonna be in the lottery!”

Sadly, they’re probably going to be somewhere in the middle, just like they have been for the past decade (excluding last year or in 2010).

I really want them to either make the playoffs (even if they can’t win the West it’ll be fun and good for player development) or miss so badly they get a fantastic draft pick. They just need to make up their minds.

Just please don’t be mediocre or decent.

It’s going to be difficult due to the great teams in the West, but since the Suns are in every game it’s certainly a possibility.

Hornacek has them playing the right way (hard and smart) which is a good sign and show they’re on the right track.
