The Phoenix Suns announced they have waived forward James Nunnally after he made three appearances in seven preseason games. The move a day after the Suns finished up their preseason slate with a 5-2 record brings the roster down to 17, meaning at least two more players will be released.
Nunnally, who last season played for Phoenix’s D-League affiliate, the Bakersfield Jam, scored three points in each of his brief stints. His contract was not guaranteed.
Logic says that point guard Malcolm Lee could be next on the chopping block considering he hasn’t played while recovering from one of a long list of surgeries on his knees and another on his hip. He also has the smallest remaining contract that is fully guaranteed. Fellow point guard Ish Smith is due $951,463 next season while Lee is owed $884,293.
Dionte Christmas earned a partially-guaranteed contract by joining the Suns in training camp and the preseason, and he joins Smith and Lee as the most-likely targets to be cut.
