Suns Advance to Summer League Semifinals

With a 103-98 victory over the Toronto Raptors summer squad, Phoenix advances to the semifinals Sunday to play the Miami Heat.

This game was a routine victory as the Suns lead the entire game.

This game was all about efficiency. As a team the Suns shot 53.1 percent from the field, which is good for an NBA game, and by extrapolation, spectacular for summer league play. You’re team is really playing its best though when your top scorers are incredibly efficient. Goodwin and the Morris twins combined for 59 points on only 27 shots, broken down to 21-27 FGs, 5-6 on three-pointers and 12-16 on free throws. That’s some definite improvement especially for the Morrii from last season. One aspect of their game that stuck out to me was the reliable nature of their mid-range jumpshot. They use it when necessary, but don’t rely on it or force shots. Also they seem to make more of them.

The only thing Goodwin missed was a couple free throws. He made all five of his shots from the field including his two attempted three-pointers.

Again, P.J. Tucker is a bully on the court in the best sense of the word. All the other players probably can’t wait until he goes back to playing in the NBA. I don’t know how many times during this summer league the commentators said, “Tucker muscles/forces/bullies his way in for the hoop”. Too many to count, that’s how many.

Marshall didn’t play too well in this game, but didn’t really have to.

Dionte Christmas scored 15 points off the bench on 6-11 shooting, including TWO four-point plays. His play is making me feel pretty good about my prediction that he is the camp invite that makes the Suns roster, despite the guard depth.

The undefeated Suns now have to prepare for the semifinals matchup with the Miami Heat on Sunday.
