Suns SL Update: PHX Looks to Earn Elusive (SL) Championship

In the first ever tournament during NBA’s summer league play, the Phoenix Suns secured a third seed and a first round bye. With the top ten teams ranked by points earned by number of games won and number of quarters won, those teams got a day off, while the other teams began the battle for a chance at the prestigious (NOT) summer league title.

Phoenix went 3-0 in the seeding rounds and could have been an even higher seed if they had won more of the quarters during that second game, where they were behind by 24 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but came back to win in the second half.

At 5:00 Phoenix time, the Suns’ squad will have a chance to get closer to that elusive (summer league) championship, as they rematch the Portland Trailblazers. In the first game of the seeding round, Phoenix won 82-69 due to contributions by the Morris twins.

Now that they are in “playoff time” I would expect the starters (Tucker, Morris twins, Marshall, and Goodwin) to play more minutes and to put even more energy into the game (relatively compared to other summer league games).

Phoenix should advance seeing as Portland is the third from the worst team and the Suns are the third from the best. If they advance, the Suns will play either the Toronto Raptors or the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
