Suns Send Dudley to Lob City in 3-way Trade!

The Suns just completed a trade that sent Jared Dudley to the Clippers in return for Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler. The trade also included the Bucks who received two second round picks and gave J.J. Reddick to the Clippers.

  • Suns get: Eric Bledsoe (young, athletic PG) and Caron Butler (veteran SF)
  • Clippers get: Jared Dudley (veteran SF, shooter) and J.J. Reddick (veteran shooter SG)
  • Bucks get: 2 second-round picks

I like this trade so much for so many reasons!

I love that the Suns get to honor Dudley and thank him for his time with Phoenix by trading him to a contender which just got much better with the addition of him and J.J. Reddick. He reunites with Alvin Gentry who is an assistant coach there. Additionally, he gets to live closer to his hometown of San Diego. He is pretty happy as seen in these tweets.

For the Suns this seems to solidify that Kendall Marshall is probably gone, because the 6’1” Bledsoe is only two years older and has a much higher ceiling and is much more athletic, even though his passing is worse. Phoenix also gets veteran Caron Butler, who has been on many winning teams in his long NBA career. The Suns probably won’t keep him long-term, but he can help out the young guys and contribute in any way. This trade also means that rookie Archie Goodwin will play shooting guard.

This trade makes me excited for the Suns future going into this season and beyond!
