Solomon Hill: Draft Profile

Solomon Hill (small forward/shooting guard)

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 226 lbs

Wingspan: 6’9”

Max Vertical Leap: 37.5”

NBA Comparison: compared Hill to Wesley Matthews and Jared Dudley early in their careers. I would compare him more to a younger version of Grant Hill during his time with the Suns, which was post-injury. Decent to good at pretty much everything, although you know he’s not a superstar who is going to make every shot from the perimeter, or blow by you for a dunk after a pump-fake. Both players have a high basketball IQ, which always seems to translate well to the NBA.

  • Good passer for a non-guard
  • He improved perimeter shooting from weakness to strength, which is also a sign of great work ethic
  • Good at getting to the free throw line

  • Not great in isolation or getting his own shot particularly well
  • Lacks elite-level lateral quickness, which shows up on defense
  • Will need to pick up his rebounding at the professional level, although he has the potential to be a good rebounder.

How he fits with the Suns: has him slated as the 57th pick which is almost the last pick in the entire draft. That is because while this draft does not contain any particular superstars, it has depth. Phoenix could pick him up a little earlier in the second round for his maturity as a four-year collegiate player and waive an older player at the same position on the roster just to get younger. However, so far down in the draft it’s just a matter of preference from Suns management on who to pick. One player isn’t certainly better than another the further we go.
