Suns Hammered At MSG! Suns 99 - Knicks 106

The Phoenix Suns(7-11) losing streak now extends to 3 after a loss earlier today to the New York Knickerbockers at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks came out of the gates hounding the Suns and had a 21-6 lead after a Ronnie Brewer steal that led to a lay-up with 5:15 left in the 1st quarter.

Another significant event took place in the 1st quarter was when Rasheed Wallace whacked Luis Scola on a drive to the basket and pick up a technical foul, and as Goran Dragic missed the technical free throw Wallace screamed out his famous line “BALL DON’T LIE” And he was ejected from the game.

After New York’s early 21-6 lead, the Suns closed out the quarter on a 14-3 run to tighten the gap and trailed 24-20 after the 1st period. The Knicks were led by this guy named Carmelo Anthony who scored 34 points, pulled in 6 rebounds and blocked 2 shots; Raymond Felton added 23 points and 7 assists for New York.

New York took a big lead at halftime as they led 59-42. In the second quarter behind forward Chris Copeland who scored all 8 of his points in the 2nd quarter and made a several momentum shifting plays that propelled New York to their big lead. Three point specialist Steve Novak also made 3 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter; Carmelo Anthony also added 9 points in the 2nd quarter for New York. Those three guys would alone out score the Suns in the 2nd quarter 26-22. New York outscored the Suns 35-22 in the 2nd period.

Marcin Gortat picked up his 1st double double in 10 games as he posted a team high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Brown scored 17 points for Phoenix, 13 of which came in the 3rd quarter however the Suns found themselves trailing 89-72 after 3 quarters. P.J Tucker and Jared Dudley each contributed 10 points for the Suns; Luis Scola posted 9 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes of play.

Trailing 17 heading into the final period, the Suns came out guns and blazing in the fourth quarter led by Brooklyn native Sebastian Telfair who led the Suns on a 13-2 run and the one time 17 point lead was now a mere 91-85 lead in favor of New York with 6:55 left in the ball game. During that stretch Telfair scored 8 points including 2 big time 3-pointers.

The New York Knicks would then respond strongly by going on a 6-0 run of their own and with a 97-85 lead with 5 minutes left, New York would go on to maintain control for the game.

The Suns did creep very close behind a Shannon Brown lay-up with 26 seconds left in the ball game and trailed 99-103 but those would be the last points the Suns score.

New York improves to 7-0 at Madison Square Garden this season while the Suns have lost their last 3 games and have lost 4 of their 5 games on this road trip. The Suns would close out their 6 game road trip with a tough game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday before heading back to Phoenix.
