You know what, there’s embarrassing then there was whatever that took place in Detroit last night. The Phoenix Suns(7-9) got ran out of Detroit by the Pistons(5-11) of Detroit last night in what was nothing short of a flat out embarrassment! Detroit was led by Brandon Knight and Charlie Villanueva who each scored 19 points in the so called “Contest”.
The Suns and Pistons game was actually off to a competitive start. The game was tied after the 1st quarter at 24-24 as Markieff Morris scored 8 of his 10 points in the 1st quarter including 2 3-pointers made in the opening period, however it was a downhill slide from that point forward.
Detroit began the second quarter on an 11-4 run capped of by two Rodney Stuckey free throws with 8:37 left in the 2nd and the Suns suddenly found themselves trailing 35-28. The Suns would pretty much trail the remainder of the game by a good margin and trailed 44-55 at halftime.
Detroit then began the 3rd quarter on a 19-4 run. During that stretch the Suns got called for 4 technical fouls, the first was on Markieff Morris who was hit was a double T along with Detroit’s Jason Maxiell early in the 3rd, second was Shannon Brown who picked up the T after a foul on Brandon Knight, third was on Dragic approximately a minute later, then finally it was Sebastian Telfair who was whistled for the team’s 4th technical foul with 5:03 left in the game, and at that point the in the quarter the Suns had as many points as they did technical fouls.
After being whistled for the 4th tech, the Suns found themselves trailing 48-74 to the Detroit Pistons and ultimately got embarrassed 77-117.
To be quite honest, I don’t know what to say at this point, this was beyond embarrassing. It’s never okay to lose by 40 points to another team! Not to mention to the Detroit Pistons! These guys played with no energy and no pride tonight. These kind of games can’t happen, absolutely zero excuse.
The Suns will get a day off tomorrow before having to face off against the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. Hopefully for the Suns there won’t be another god awful game like this for the remainder of the season. To put in prospective how bad this loss was, the only loss that was worse this season was the Charlotte Bobcat’s loss to the Thunder the other night 69-114.
