The Phoenix Suns headed to Dallas to play their third preseason game on Wednesday night and they walked out winners. The Suns edged out the Mavericks in a 100-94 win. It was a close game for most of the 1st half as the Mavs took a 53-49 lead heading into halftime but the Suns came out of the locker room firing. Led by the hot shooting Jared Dudley who scored 16 points in 16 minutes of play, the Suns outscored Dallas 32-20 in the 3rd quarter.

During the 9:10 mark in the 3rd quarter the Suns trailed the Dallas 58-61 and Dudley tied the game with a 3 pointer on an assist from Dragic and the Suns capped off a 14-2 run on another Dudley 3 pointer and led 72-63 with 5:00 left in the 3rd.

Dallas made a push in the fourth quarter and cut what was a 10 point deficit to a one possession game with score set at 96-94 with 59 seconds remaining. After a chaos play in the final minute, P.J Tucker saved the ball from going out of bounds to Diante Garret at the top of the key and Garret got into the paint and dished off to Ike Diogu for the game icing dunk.

Dudley demonstrated his improved offense making shots all over the court, 3s, long 2s, fade-away jumpers and reverse lay-ups. Maverick’s center Chris Kaman matched Dudley’s 16 points on the night, Vince Carter added 15 off the bench, and Mav’s rookie Jae Crowder added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks; quite a night for Crowder.

Goran Dragic had another stellar performance scoring 12 points and dishing out 6 assists in only 19 minutes of action while Luis Scola and Michael Beasley each had 4 assists. The Suns continue to move the ball well, earning 25 assists of 38 made field goals on Wednesday night.

Shannon Brown suffered an ankle injury with 49 seconds left in the first half, and did not return to action; his status is unknown, stay tuned to Sun-N-Gun for updates. Wesley Johnson continued to show his ability to score the basketball, scoring 11 points on the night and also pulling down 5 rebounds.

Suns second year player Markieff Morris struggled heavily on Wednesday night as he made only 2-14 attempts from the field scoring 6 points on the night and grabbing 6 rebounds. Morris seemed to be outmatched by Maverick’s forwards Elton Brand and Jae Crowder and ultimately forced up some bad shots; 9/12 of his misses were jump shots.

The Suns head to Tulsa to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at the BOK center on Friday night tip-off set at 8:00 PM EST. Marshall lost his rotation spot to Sebastian Telfair on Wednesday night but expect Marshall to play heavy minutes once again on Friday night because chances are Alvin Gentry gave Marshall’s minutes away to serve as an incentive for Marshall to step up his game.
