Update: Channing Frye's Heart Condition

Channing Frye was diagnosed with a heart condition earlier and it turns out it’s not only an enlarged heart but in fact it’s a rare virus that can be only treated with rest; if that. It was reported that Frye would be reevaluated in December to see if he gets the nod to perform some basketball activities but according to Channing Frye he’ll need at least 6 months rest which most likely means he’s out for the whole season.

Frye suffered another shoulder injury this past season on the same shoulder he dislocated back in the 2010-2011 season and he also needed surgery to repair his shoulder. According to reports, Frye has been working very hard this off-season and Frye felt that this would be the best shape he’s been for training camp had not been for the heart issue.

The heart condition is a strange and rare condition which now has Frye’s heart pumping out blood at half the rate of it was last season. The virus also attacks his heart muscles viciously causing his heart muscles to stretch thus weakening the heart’s strength to pump blood.

Had this condition not been discovered there was a serious risk of Frye’s life being in danger as there’s a “Small but real possibility that he could go into an arrhythmia,” Wheatley said. “His heart would beat in an uncoordinated fashion and he’d pass out and die. It’s exceptionally rare to have this problem and even more rare in an athlete,” Wheatley said. “His heart is going to have to regenerate quite a bit.”

Frye however remains hopeful about the situation and will use his time off to spend with his wife and two children. Frye says “When it’s done and the doctors clear me, I’m going to get right back at it as if nothing’s wrong”. Wish Channing Frye a get well soon Suns fans as he’s been a valuable player for us and also his value in the Phoenix Suns community.
