Suns vs Jazz Preview: First Night

And on the First Night, the Suns met with the Jazz, a team with a deep front court, no point guard whatsoever, and Raja Bell as their starting shooting guard.

Awkward team indeed.  A team that has lifted it’s spirits with a great win against the Pistons, where Al Jefferson went absolutely insane. The problem?

The Jazz can’t defend the pick and roll, and Marcin Gortat is angry.

Gortat had a solid performance cut short by foul trouble last time out, when the Suns lost to the Timberwolves. Right after the game, he promised to come back with a vengeance. When is a better time do do this than against a slow footed Big Guy like Al Jefferson? I don’t think there is one.

Meanwhile, the Jazz will have to deal with a brand new weapon in Jared Dudley. Dudley scored 28 points against Minnesota and has been red hot of late, showing why Phoenix fans absolutely love him. If Gortat manages to stay on the floor this time, and Steve Nash manages to repeat his last performance (which shouldn’t be that hard against Devin Harris) the Suns have a shot at winning this absolutely must-win game against a playoff race rival.

This time, the Suns have a shot. They’d do well to use it.
