A Week in Review: Suns Approaching the Playoffs

Before the All-Star break, would you have believed that the Suns would only lose one game in a stretch were they were meeting the defending champs, a rising T-Wolves team and the Clippers?

I doubt you did. And neither did I.

The Suns just kept rolling this week, with Jared Dudley scorching, Steve Nash balling and Marcin Gortat scoring a new career high… In a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The three games, all against extremely strong Western teams showed that the Suns are ready to fight for a playoff spot, a feat that if achieved, would probably give Steve Nash some credibility for a third MVP.

Since I was unable to watch the Grizz game, and didn’t give you my game grades for the marvellous Mavs win, I’ll give you grades for this week. Warning: They’re pretty positive.

Steve Nash: A+
No real beefs with how Steve played, why should you have any either way?

Marcin Gortat: A+
Marcin may have had trouble scoring in the last two games, but his presence really allows the other players to spread the floor as everyone collapses on the Polish Hammer. Great, great asset to have.

Jared Dudley: A+
Jared is the key player in this run, no doubt about it. He’s scorching from the field and making very, very good plays.

Grant Hill: A
Grant may have not been absolutely perfect in this stretch, but he immensely frustrated guys like Kevin Durant (until he committed his 5th foul and had to back down), Dirk Nowitzki and Rudy Gay. You must respect that.

Channing Frye: B+
Channing started focusing on team play recently, instead of mindlessly jacking up every shot he feels he’d  have made last year. That’s absolutely great on a few levels.

Robin Lopez: B
Robin was up and down in some games, but was key to a Suns run against the Grizzlies. I’ll give credit where credit is due, hopefully so will some GMs desperate for trades. Hey, Memphis, want to give up O.J. Mayo for Robin and Shannon by any chance?

Hakim Warrick: B
Hakim came from the bench in the Mavs matchup, and brought an instant spark. He may not be the most skilled player, but he’s one of the nicest guys, and a really hard worker. Yay?

The Rest of the Bench: C+
The bench was just average. Which considering what they’ve been of late, is still an improvement
