Altruism vs Egoism: Suns at Lakers Preview

Steve Nash vs Kobe Bryant.

One of the greatest passers vs one of the greatest scorers.

Sharing vs Freezing teammates out.

Welcome to another rivalry.

Much has changed from the time the Suns were a few games from the NBA Finals, but one thing remains: A will to win against the Lakers. And these Lakers aren’t exactly the Lakers we know. Without Lamar Odom, the team seems to have trouble with playmaking. Well, you know, they were supposed to have Chris Paul.

Today two philosophies will clash. Kobe’s re-discovered love for killing his team with his egoistic attitude, vs Nash’s ever-present desire to help his teammates, often above himself. Some might say that herein lies the source of Nash’s championship lacks, but we shouldn’t focus on that.

The Lakers killed the Suns the last time out, they really did. Or, should I say, the Suns killed themselves. Marcin Gortat and Steve Nash had good games, and the rest… Well, the rest sucked. But this Suns team also has something to prove to the Lakers. They always do.

Remember last years triple overtime contest? We might be in for a repeat. The stage is set on a nationally televised game in LA. Grant Hill has his defence back, the Lakers are playing kinda bad of late. If the Suns give it their all… They should have a chance. Especially if they keep running those pop plays they’ve ran for Gortat last time out. Bynum and Gasol just refused to close out on him.

So, who will prevail? The egoist, or the altruist? A juggernaut losing steam, or a failing team looking to prove everyone wrong?

Probably the juggernaut…

Umm… We’ll find out soon!
