Phoenix Suns team improvement video

The Phoenix Suns offseason improvement video series is finally complete, with the final video (above) breaking down three areas where the Suns as a team need to get better before next season, whenever that may be. Below is the full list of offseason improvement videos included in the series. The videos can also be found at my YouTube Channel.

PGs: Steve Nash, Aaron Brooks and Zabian Dowdell

SGs: Jared Dudley and Mickael Pietrus

SFs: Josh Childress

PFs: Channing Frye and Hakim Warrick

Cs: Marcin Gortat, Robin Lopez and Garret Siler

I’ve enjoyed this series. Thanks for putting it together! :D

I think the team defense may improve once this group gets more time to play together. Lacking a camp and a pre-season this year will hurt, though.

If he can get onto the court, Markieff Morris should help some with the rebounding load, as may Gani Lawal. If Warrick is moved to SF, that should improve his ability to rebound; he just hasn’t been successful against beefier PFs.

The Suns continue to lack a go-to scorer, and I don’t know where they are going to get one. In an earlier post I mentioned possibly picking up Redd and/or Mayo. Either could be used in a crunch time scoring role, but neither appears at this time to be an ideal solution.

Possibly if some of the defensive burden was relieved from Hill – and if he was used mainly to start and close out halves – he might have the energy to contribute at crunch time; but again, this is not an ideal solution.

yes- good series. thanks a lot for putting it together.

I thought you were going to have one on Hill too? Or maybe since he’s not on the roster at this point, we won’t get one of him. Or there isn’t much to improve on.

I agree with Scott’s comments above on defense- though I do think this team as constructed is athletic enough to be really good defensively. They just don’t play like it. They should be as good, if not better, than our last WCF team ’09-’10 on paper. But they just aren’t cohesive or have the desire to play for each other like that team did. Maybe they’ll find it. Let’s hope.

Have to say, though, that at this point in the CBA negotiations I’m even more seriously wondering if the major talents in the league are just going to split off and form an ABA, while next season the NBA reforms with new talent and a few of the lesser players from the present NBA.

@sun-arc Schmitz and I discussed Hill but decided there just isn’t a whole lot for the 39-year-old to improve upon and since he’s a free agent that made it easier to decide against doing one on him. Kind of same thing with Nash, but Schmitz was able to find a couple defensive things to touch on.
