A look back at All-Star Jam Session as the MLB All-Star Game invades Phoenix

The sports world will be glued to downtown Phoenix the next two days, but for once it has nothing to do with the Suns.

That’s because the city will be hosting its second All-Star Game in less than three years as the D-backs welcome baseball’s Midsummer Classic.

Since this is a Suns blog I’ll save my venting over Justin Upton’s omission from the Home Run Derby and Ian Kennedy’s All-Star Game snub for another medium.

However, attending MLB’s FanFest today brought back lots of memories of NBA Jam Session from that crazy weekend in February 2009 when Shaquille O’Neal earned co-MVP honors as a Suns All-Star, Steve Nash did not make the squad for once and Alvin Gentry replaced Terry Porter before the party ended.

In memory of the Suns’ All-Star Weekend from 2009, below you will find some goofy videos I made at Jam Session that feature a lighter side of ValleyoftheSuns:

Michael Schwartz founded ValleyoftheSuns in October 2008 and is the owner/editor emeritus of the site. He is currently working toward his MBA in sports business at San Diego State University.

Just like the Phoenix Suns, the MLB is full of tradition and honor, but I can’t believe the number of players that have decided to pull out of such a great event. I know that they really could care less about anyone but themselves, but still would nice for them to act like they where honored by the invite. On another note, I think its crazy to have to put someone from every team in the All-star game. (that’s a different rant)

    Great videos.
