Marcin Gortat suffered a nasal fracture during the third quarter of Friday’s loss to the Hornets when he collided with Steve Nash’s head, according to a Suns release.
His nose was “manipulated back into place” this morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and he is questionable for Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.
The freak injury came at a terrible time with Gortat having already gone for 18 points and 10 minutes despite there still being four minutes left in the third quarter when he got hurt.
The Suns could not recover from the loss of Gortat on Friday with Mickael Pietrus and Vince Carter also out for the game at that point, as the Hornets dealt the Suns’ already tenuous playoff hopes a serious blow.
If Gortat cannot go against the Mavs then the Suns will need to get considerably more from Robin Lopez, who committed four fouls in less than four minutes and was so bad the Suns did not go back to him late against New Orleans despite Gortat being out.
