Brooks for Dragic: another useless attempt at finding the next Nash

The latest attempt to find a back up/successor to Steve Nash comes to the Valley from Houston, and goes by the name of Aaron Brooks.

I believe the trade is a decent one for our Suns only in the short run: Phoenix got a better player (today) but gave up another piece of their future, as Dragic has probably more future potential than Brooks not to mention they gave up yet another draft pick.

One might add that it won’t matter since the Suns haven’t done anything positive on draft days over the last years (a long list of yearly mistakes and cash considerations since teh Amare pick).

Marcus Banks, came got the money and was shipped out of town, Goran Dragic did the same a few years later. Between them there was even room for the Junior Straw, gone and long forgotten.

Brooks could be the best of the group but by now we should know that none of them is nor will ever be similar (forget equal, I’ll settle for a lot less) to Nash.

Nash is different, his presence changes the entire team. A team built around Nash will never adapt to another PG, period. Give the ball to Grant Hill and let him run the offense…or whatever.

The Suns should stop looking for a Vice-Nash, it’s not going to happen so why not keep Dragic and see if he could become something special (and different from Nash) for the Suns future.

Yours truly, Luca, the Steve Fan
