Goran Dragic not ready for Thursday

When I was 21, I had clearly seen too many movies. During one particularly stupid night,* I decided that the best way to handle an argument would be to break a beer bottle on the counter and hold it menacingly, movie-bar-fight style.

*An inanimate, subjective definition of a span of time wasn’t stupid, of course – just all of my actions during that time.

Immediately upon striking the corner of the counter, the bottle completely shattered, and a decent size piece of glass buried itself into my right thumb. Being young, drunk, and “invincible,” I ignored the shard as it made its way deeper and deeper into my skin. That foreign body had to be surgically removed when I later developed numbness in the pad of my thumb; I have a sizable scar to remind me of that lack of feeling.

Note to self: Dumb ass.

Given my experience with broken glass, I have all of the sympathy in the world for Goran Dragic. Dragic cut his foot on a piece of broken glass in an accident in his home on January 30th, requiring a trip to the emergency room and nine stitches near the big toe on his left foot. The Suns hoped that the Dragon would be ready for Thursday night’s game against Golden State, but according to Seth Pollack of SB Nation Arizona, Dragic hasn’t healed completely yet and will miss the game against the Warriors. With the Suns signing Zabian Dowdell for the rest of the season earlier this week, this development isn’t surprising.

Update: After Wednesday’s practice, coach Alvin Gentry said that Dragic was “still a couple games away.” Pollack says that Dragic did shoot a bit today during practice but did not participate in five-on-five drills.
