Weird title for a Suns blog right? WRONG! This week the Suns only play twice. It’s one of the rare weeks that I can watch every Phoenix Suns game without it occupying enough time to make my wife surly. Then again, a surly wife is the badge of a sports fan, and a badge I wear with pride! So this week I’m rounding out my time with a dose of the Houston Rockets. Why the Rockets? Because I’m a Phoenix Suns fan and this week the Rockets play the Lakers, Jazz and Grizzlies. By the time you read this the Lakers game will probably be finished but that game doesn’t really matter to a Suns fan (Newsflash: The Lakers will make the playoffs). However, the Jazz and Grizzlies games are extremely relevant. Right now the Suns have the 10th seed in the west with a 22-24 record which is trending up (7-3 in their last 10). In order to make the playoffs they need to leap frog two teams. The closest target for the Suns are the Grizzlies who have the same amount of losses, but three more wins and a gentle schedule after beating the Magic yesterday (Minny and Cleveland) before playing the Rockets at Houston. The Jazz are seeded a couple notches up with a record of 28-20, but they are sinking like a brick losing 7 of their last 9.
Before someone brings it up, I am aware the Rockets are right behind us… but when it comes to a playoff race you only look forward. If the Rockets end up with a higher seed than the Suns, chances are neither of us made the playoffs and I’m happy to take their place in the lottery.
