Nash puts positive spin on All-Star Game

Believe it or not, Steve Nash actually seems relieved that he wasn’t voted by the fans to start in the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. He also seems to realize that he probably won’t be selected as a reserve by the coaches – or maybe he’s just hopeful.

Why? Is Nash looking forward to a weekend of rest in order to prepare for the long haul of the second half of the season and Phoenix’ ascension into the basketball heaven we all call the playoffs? Does Nash have some sort of injury that he’s been hiding? Maybe he just hates Kobe Bryant!

I mean, who doesn't? Especially with one of those STUPID MINI-LAKER FLAGS GOD I HATE THOSE

Actually, this all stems back to twitter. A couple of weeks ago, Nash tweeted:

“Promised a friend if the fans vote me in all star game I’ll try to dunk. WTF was I thinking? Is this where I ask fans to stop voting for me?”

While Nash did explicitly say his dunking in the game was dependent on the fans voting him in, I suspect that, if selected as a reserve, the fans would urge Nash to “throw it down, small fry!” And knowing Nash, he’d probably go out of his way to oblige them. Either way, Nash congratulated the All-Star starters thusly this morning:

“Big congratulations to all the All Star starters! Great honor and well deserved. And…..I don’t have to dunk…peace.”

Props to Nash for graciously congratulating his competitors. Rest easy, Steve – next year, we’re all nominating you for the dunk contest.
